This restaurant is situated on the site
of Somerset Plantation, which was the property of John
Somers (one of this area’s original settlers).
Within a few hundred feet on the other side of the circle
stands the Somers Mansion built between 1720 and 1726
by Richard Somers, the son of John Somers. The house
now belongs to the State of New Jersey and
is one of the oldest settlements in the state! Overlooking
the Great Egg Harbor Bay in Somers Point is the Crab
Trap Restaurant. The Crab Trap was established in 1967
by Jack Wallace. Back then it was known as Maenner’s
Cafe serving tap beer and sandwiches to Somers Point
residents.
No Longer is there a “horseshoe”
bar and dirt floors. Today the Crab Trap flourishes
as a 400 seat full service restaurant serving the finest
seafood in South Jersey. As many businesses expand they
often lose touch with the quality and small personal
touches that made them special. At the Crab Trap we
don’t believe that has happened or ever will.
Longevity in the restaurant business is very unusual.
A decade of food and service service is a milestone
worthy of celebrating, But since 1967! Quite remarkable.
Restaurants
come and restaurants go but we have overcome the odds.
We continue to provide friendly, prompt service and
serve delicious food to thousands of wonderful patrons
each year. Our menu still features some of the same
classic dishes that have made us so popular over the
years but we also think you’ll appreciate some
of the newer cuisine our chef’s have created to
keep you enticed!
We have come along way since the shots and beer of Maenner’s
Cafe but Jack Wallace and his family are still at the
helm of the Crab Trap today working closely with their
staff to ensure you a pleasant dining experience. Whether
it is a romantic first date, a family gathering, a night
out on our Crabby Jack’s deck bar or a business
function to impress your clients we are here for you.
We hope you enjoy our site and we
anxiously look forward to welcoming you as our guest.
